Printerpoint provides two options for configuring a printer for ink/toner cartridge alerting:
- Cartridge level
- Estimated days to empty
This configuration can be set either in the Printer supplies details > Configuration section, or in the Pending Supply Orders > Printer > Supplies configuration dialog.
Cartridge level
When Cartridge level is selected, ink/toner cartridges generate alerts when a cartridge goes below the desired threshold.
Cartridge level alerts are available for all printers and are supported as soon as the printer is added.
Estimated days to empty
When Estimated days to empty is selected, ink/toner cartridges generate alerts when Printerpoint estimates that a cartridge will be empty in the number of days selected.
There are two major benefits to using Estimated days to empty:
- Configuration can be set based on your processing/shipping time, rather than customer usage profile
- Color usage varies on some printers, so alerting based on when an individual cartridge is estimated to be empty ensures that lesser-used cartridges are not shipped too early.
Estimated days to empty alerts work best with printers that report cartridge level in 1% increments. Some printers that may not yield accurate results are:
- KIP printers (25% increments)
- Legacy Canon iPF printers (20% increments)
- Current Canon iPF printers (10% increments)
- Oce monochrome printers (full/empty cartridge levels only)
Estimated days to empty is calculated by using historical cartridge level information, and works best with at least 14 days of printer data collected in Printerpoint.
