Printerpoint estimates how many days are left before a cartridge (ink or toner) runs out. This “Days to Empty” feature helps dealers deliver replacement supplies at the right time—based on actual usage, not just the percent remaining.
You can view these estimates by hovering over a cartridge slot, or by going to the Printer > Supplies Details page.
However, there are situations where a “Days to Empty” value won’t be shown:
- The printer doesn’t report gradual levels.
Some printers only report whether a cartridge is full or empty, without any percentage in between. For example, the Océ Plotwave 360 only shows full or empty status, so Printerpoint can’t calculate usage over time. - There’s not enough usage history yet.
To generate an accurate estimate, Printerpoint needs to see at least two different level readings over time. If the level hasn’t changed since monitoring began, we can’t make a prediction.
Additionally, when a printer is first added, the Days to Empty estimate may be unreliable until at least 14 days of usage history is recorded. That said, if we’ve seen at least two distinct cartridge levels, we’ll still provide our best estimate—even in the early days.
